HISTORY OF MUSEUM


In the decision of The Central Committee of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan on “On the 100th anniversary of Hussein Javid” made on July 21, 1981, it was stated to create memorial museum of H.Javid in Baku and Nakhchivan cities, to update the facade of the house No.8 situating at the address of Istiglaliyyat street (former Communist), Baku city which H.Javid lived in 1920-1937 years and to install a memorial plaque to the facade. According to that decision intended to held 100th anniversary of Hussein Javid by the order No.228 of Ministry of Culture on August 14, 1981 and to open memorial museum of H.Javid in Baku city by the order No.522 of Ministry of Culture on December 15, 1981. According to the order of Ministry of Culture dated on April 16, 1991, 5 rooms of abovementioned building intended for Hussein Javid’s Home Museum. Although the building was the same building, but intended 5 rooms were not living rooms of Javid. Eventually, by the decision No.160 dated on July 10, 1995, issue on the creation of Hussein Javid’s Home Museum (8, Istiglaliyyat street), location of museum in the 3rd floor of the same building, including the entrance of 2nd floor, it transfer into submission of ANAS and naming it after “Hussein Javid’s Home Museum” was resolved.
The total area of Hussein Javid’s Home Museum is 245 sq. meters. In the main fund of museum 10615 exhibits are protected, 1201 exhibits are displayed at the exhibition. Among these exhibits are displayed of H.Javid’s manuscripts, clothing and household items belonging to the Javid’s family, published works of H.Javid in different years, his own books, family photos, programs from the performances of dramatic works, posters and photographs, books used by A.Javid, notes of musical compositions that composed by him, gramophone records, different documents, the letters and materials connected with the activity of T.Javid. On the 120th anniversary of Hussein Javid, October 24, 2002, the opening ceremony of Museum was held with the participation of the national leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev. He cut the ribbon for the opening of the Hussein Javid’s Home Museum, acquainted with the exposition, left memorable record in opinion book of museum and blessed on the future activities of the museum. Therefore the exposition of Hussein Javid’s Home Museum opened its doors to a wider audience since October 24, 2002.
Currently Hussein Javid’s Home Museum is one of the scientific departments of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. There are Scientific Council and 8 departments in the museum. Activities of the departments are:

1) Department of H.Javid’s heritage studies - researching and promoting of materials about H.Javid and generally Javids’ heritage;
2) Department of popular scientific works - promoting, demonstrating the exhibitions, organizing the events, preparing excursion texts and keeping explanations about H.Javid and generally Javids’ heritage;
3) Department of scientific funds - collecting, certificating, filing scientific description and protecting about H.Javid and generally Javids’ heritage;
4) Department of scientific and an artistic arrangement - the artistic arrangement of the exposition and mobile exhibition, design of web-site of Hussein Javid’s Home Museum;
5) Department of scientific exposition - demonstraiting the exhibits and keeping explanations;
6) Department of scientific information and library - collecting, storeging of the books about H.Javid and generally Javids’ heritage, and servicing to the readers;
7) Staff department - the organization of staff issues;
8) General department - the organization agricultural issues.

Doctor of philological sciences Gulbeniz Babakhanli has been a director of museum since 2004.
There is the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists for stimulate the scientific activity of young scientists and enhance the role of the development of science in Hussein Javid’s Home Museum since 2013. Members of the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists demonstrate traditional and mobile exhibitions, give corresponding lectures, as well as organize the variety of events with the aim of promoting Hussein Javid’s heritage in our Republic and abroad.
Hussein Javid’s Home Museum ANAS is official member of ICOM (International Council of Museums) since 2005. There is a role of web page of museum (www.huseyncavid.com) which created in 2006, in the expansion of the geography of our relations. Any person can visit our museum virtually via site regardless of time and space.
According to the decree signed by the President I.Aliyev on the holding of “125th birth anniversary of Hussein Javid” in 2007, of “130th birth anniversary of Hussein Javid” in 2012, Hussein Javid’s Home Museum ANAS hold the international scientific conference on “Hussein Javid’s heritage and the modern period” (H.Javid-125), “The creativity of Hussein Javid in the light of modern thought” (H.Javid-130) in Presidium of ANAS. In consequence of 130th birth anniversary of Hussein Javid international scientific conference was held in the Azerbaijan Culture Center named after Heydar Aliyev in Dashkand with the organization of Hussein Javid’s Home Museum and The Embassy of Uzbekistan to AR and with the organization of Hussein Javid’s Home Museum and Istanbul Turkey-Azerbaijan Association.
In 2009-2011-2013 Hussein Javid’s Home Museum ANAS actively participated in International Book Fair held in Baku city by the organization of Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan by demonstrating its new publications. Hussein Javid’s Home Museum ANAS was awarded diplomas by Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan Republic for active participation in the International Book Fairs. The museum staff participated in book exhibitions held in Frankfurt city, Germany in 2008 and in Barcelona city, Spain in 2011.
In addition, according to the Decree by President I.Aliyev on “Celebrating 130th anniversary of Hussein Javid”, the exhibition of new publications by Hussein Javid’s Home Museum ANAS was demonstrated in solemn opening ceremony of bust of the well-known Azerbaijani poet and playwright held on September 11, 2013 in historical “Royal Park” of Podgorica city-the capital of Montenegro.
The exhibition devoted to H.Javid’s heritage, made Hussein Javid’s Home Museum, especially to the stage history of “Topal Teymur” (“Lame Timur”) dram was held in the scientific conference dedicated to the 85 years of the work of “Topal Teymur” organized on April 9, 2010 in Tashkent by Hussein Javid’s Home Museum jointly with Azerbaijan Embassy in Uzbekistan and museum’s director, doctor of philological sciences G.Babakhanlı made a speech. In 2010, for the promotion of H.Javid’s heritage, museum director, doctor in philology G.Babakhanlı conducted meetings in Istanbul University regarding the creativity of Javid, became closely acquainted with Istanbul University where H.Javid studied formerly and presented collection of H.Javid’s works to University.
During Tabriz visit, the employees of Hussein Javid’s Home Museum held meetings in Central Library of Tabriz and museums related to the creativity of H.Javid. Museum signed a contract with Azerbaijani consulate in Tabriz in connection with translation of selected aphorisms of H.Javid into Persian language and selected aphorisms from the works of H.Javid was translated into Azerbaijani language at the initiative of Hussein Javid’s Home Museum and with the support of Consul General of Azerbaijan in Tabriz Ali Alizadah based on this contract.
At the initiative of Hussein Javid’s Home Museum and with the support of Former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Azerbaijan Republic in Belarus, “Sheikh Sanan” and “Iblis” plays by Hussein Javid were translated in Belarusian language. “Sheikh Sanan” and “Iblis” plays of Hussein Javid were published in the journal of “Neman” - edition of Belarusian Writers' Union.
On April 26, in 2012 director of Hussein Javid’s Home Museum ANAS, doctor of philological sciences G.Babakhanli was awarded “Humay” National Prize on Science nomination due to “Azerbaijan non-material cultural heritage and Artogrol Javid” multivoluminous in the XXII presentation ceremony of “Humay” award organized by Ministy of Culture and Tourism, “Bakili” International Cultural Society, “Humay” National Award Academy.
For the promotion of H.Javid’s heritage, director of Hussein Javid’s Home Museum, doctor of philological sciences Gulbeniz Babakhanli participated in VI International Symposium of Turkic Culture, Art And Protection Of Cultural Heritage organized in city of Milan, Italy by “Miras” Social Organization in Support of Studying of Cultural Heritage, Konya Opinion, Culture and People of Art Association in Turkey and Polytechnic University of Milan on September, 2012.
Undoubtedly, the activity of Hussein Javid’s Home Museum will continue effectively in the future and museum will maintain its leading role in the promotion of Hussein Javid’s heritage, creativity, carrying out the works at republican level and of international importance.
